Austin Local Area Traffic Mitigation Program Highlights
- Requests for speed mitigation projects can be made only by residents on the street segment.
- Austin Transportation Department
- Conducts traffic studies (volume and speed of traffic)
- Determines the eligibility for a project
- Develops a mitigation plan (type and location of speed control devices.)
- Note - Residents' preferences are specifically excluded from consideration in defining the plan.
- Requester must submit signed petitions from ALL residents on the street indicating "Support" or "No Support" for the speed mitigation plan.
- Projects are ranked for funding based on the level of speeding and level of resident support as well as other factors.
- Only a few of the top ranked projects get funded each year due to city budget limitations.
- Voluntary payment of at least half of all costs may expedite project implementation.
