The Recording Division preserves all documents pertaining to real property records, including deeds, tax liens, and UCCs. This division also issues marriage licenses (http://www.co.travis.tx.us/county_clerk/marriage_licenses.asp) and files assumed names (DBAs) (http://www.co.travis.tx.us/county_clerk/dba.asp) for new businesses. The permanent library of these records contains millions of documents from the 1800’s to the present. Older documents are on microfilm and newer documents have electronic indexes and digital images that are available on the internet.

If you are looking for a document that was filed prior to 1988, we invite you to come to our public research area at 5501 Airport Blvd. Research clerks are available to help you find and view these records. You may also call our main number (854-9188), where for a fee, our office can perform a search of the records or provide a certified copy.

If you are looking for a document that was filed after 1988, you can check our online database of indexes and imaged documents. Please call our main number (854-9188) if you need assistance or would like to purchase a certified copy.

Discouraging Identity Theft

The documents available on our website are limited to those that have been reviewed for the presence of sensitive personal identifiers such as social security numbers. If a sensitive personal identifier is located, that information is redacted or blackened out from view. This step has been taken to reduce the chance of persons using these internet records to commit identity theft.

A thorough review of these records was made, but it not a perfect process. If you discover an inappropriate identifier such as a social security number on an internet record, please contact our office by email or phone so that we can make a correction.
